Vision:

It is the vision of Western Academy Charter School to continue to provide a standard of excellence in education to our students and remain an “A” graded school by state grading standards.

 

Mission:

It is the mission of Western Academy Charter School to equip all children with the skills necessary for success on both an educational and social level through a quality student centered learning environment that promotes high standards, diversity, creativity and acceptance.  We believe that both the family and the community are essential participants in the education of children, and that together we can help children become socially adept individuals with self-confidence, self respect, compassion and respect for others and their community.

 

Our 2018-2019 plan includes a targeted approach to instruction that will raise student achievement in the content areas of ELA, Mathematics, Science, Algebra 1, Geometry and Civics.

 

Demographics:

Western Academy Charter School serves a multi-ethnic school population. The school profile for the 519 students currently being served in the 2018-2019 year breaks down as follows:  51% White, 21% Hispanic, 15% African American, and 13% that includes American Indian, Asian and multi-racial.  Economically disadvantaged students account for 48% of the population.  Additionally, 11% of students are Students with Disabilities (SWD).  The school has 2% active ELL students currently enrolled.

 

Projected Improvements:

In 2018, Western Academy Charter School exceeded the achievement average in the State of Florida and the Palm Beach County School District in End of Course Exam scores for Civics, Algebra 1, Geometry, and FCAT Science.  Western Academy will continue to strive to exceed these averages in all subject areas and grades for the 2018-2019 school-year.

 

English Language Arts (ELA)

  • In grades 3-5, 76% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA
    • In grade 3: 77% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA
      • Goal: In grades 3, 77% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
    • In grade 4: 73% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
      • Goal: In grades 4, 80% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
    • In grade 5: 77% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
      • Goal: In grades 5, 75% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
  • In grades 6-8, 82% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA with a breakdown as follows:
    • In grade 6: 80% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
      • Goal: In grades 6, 80% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
    • In grade 7: 78% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
      • Goal: In grades 7, 81% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
    • In grade 8: 88% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.
      • Goal: In grades 8, 81% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) ELA.

 

Math

  • In grades 3-5, 82% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math with a breakdown as follows:
    • In grade 3: 80% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
      • Goal: In grades 3, 82% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
    • In grade 4: 84% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
      • Goal: In grades 4, 83% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
    • In grade 5: 81% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
      • Goal: In grades 5, 84% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
  • In grades 6-8, 91% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math with a breakdown as follows:
    • In grade 6: 87% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
      • Goal: In grades 6, 85% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
    • In grade 7: 87% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
      • Goal: In grades 7, 89% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
    • In grade 8: 99% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
      • Goal: In grades 8, 90% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) Math.
 

Science

  • In grades 5, 73% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the FCAT Science Test.
    • Goal: In grades 5, 79% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 FCAT Science.
  • In grades 8, 79% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the FCAT Science Test.
    • Goal: In grades 8, 85% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 FCAT Science.

 

Algebra EOC

  • In grades 7 & 8, 100% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the End of Course Exam for High School Credit.
    • Goal: In grades 7 & 8, 100% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Algebra I End of Course Exam for High School Credit.

 

Geometry EOC

  • In grades 7 & 8, 100% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the End of Course Exam for High School Credit.
    • Goal: In grades 8, 100% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Geometry End of Course Exam for High School Credit.
 

Civics EOC

  • In grades 7, 99% of students achieved mastery on the 2018 administration of the End of Course Exam.
    • Goal: In grades 7, 90% of the students will achieve mastery on the 2019 Civics End of Course Exam.

 

Community Involvement

  • Increase literacy through activities, resources and events at the school and in local businesses.
    • Goal: Provide a workshop to parents, students and community members to increase awareness of mental health issues that impact students’ academic, emotional and social growth.
 

Budget:

Based on the School Advisory Council funding of 519 students at $5.00 per student, a total budget of $2,595 will be used for the purchase of materials and resources to be used in our Middle School Intensive Reading classrooms to focus on increasing our FSA ELA scores.
