We understand that the transition to online learning is going to take some time for everyone to acclimate – students, parents, as well as teachers. There will be a learning curve as some are more familiar and comfortable using technology than others. Please be patient and know that we are here to provide assistance and support as needed.
On our school website we have included some helpful Google Classroom Information as well as a link for Student & Parent Support if you are in need of technical assistance.
I hope this email finds all of our students and school families healthy and safe and I look forward to seeing everyone on campus again soon.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. It is important to stress that there although there are no cases of COVID-19 linked to our Western Academy community at this point in time, we are following the advice of the District and closing school for students starting next week.
School will be closed for students starting on Monday, March 16th through Sunday, March 29th. Students will return to school on Monday, March 30th.
Please check our school website (www.westernacademycharter.com/) and your email regularly for updates from the school.
My priorities, as principal of Western Academy, are keeping your children safe and making sure that you are well informed. I would like to share with you a Coronavirus update. It is important to remember that there are currently no known cases of Coronavirus in Palm Beach County. However, we are actively monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and we are making the necessary preparations in the event it becomes more prevalent in our area. Western Academy has been proactive in the past few weeks by initiating enhanced cleaning methods in all areas of the school. We have hired extra custodial services to come in at night to help our custodians deep clean and disinfect the school and classrooms. This proactive school-wide intensive cleaning initiative will continue through the end of school year as needed. One of the best ways to prevent the spread of illness is through proper handwashing. All bathrooms are well stocked with soap and paper towels. Please discuss the importance of proper handwashing with your children. As a school, we are encouraging students to wash their hands frequently. Parents, any time that your child is experiencing flu-like symptoms or has a fever, it is important to consult your pediatrician. Please follow the pediatrician’s advice regarding when to keep children home from school. At this point in time our school, like other schools throughout the district, continues to function as normal. We are currently reviewing upcoming field trips, afterschool activities and special events to determine our plan of action. If at any point in the future we are directed to close school for a period of time we will implement a temporary, computer-based virtual learning plan for our K-8 students. Teachers and students will be trained on how to implement the plan if necessary. In the event of such a situation, you will receive more detailed information. Recently we sent home a survey asking parents about the availability and access to technology at home. Please return this form to school by March 19th so that we can assist you if needed. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. We will continue to provide you with the latest information as it becomes available. Thank you, Mrs. Manriquez
