Gifted Consultation Program
At Western Academy Charter School, we offer a Gifted Consultation Model designed to support the academic and social-emotional needs of our gifted students.
English Language Arts (ELA):
Gifted students receive enrichment in ELA through a collaborative approach. The Teacher of the Gifted and the ELA teacher meet monthly to review student progress, including grades, effort, behavior, and social-emotional development. These meetings ensure that students' individual goals are being met and monitored through documented teacher observations.
Each student sets academic and social-emotional goals for the year, typically working with above-grade-level reading material. Enrichment is provided within the classroom through differentiated instruction, the i-Ready program, and the Accelerated Reader Program to challenge and engage students.
Mathematics:
Gifted students in math have access to an above-grade-level learning menu, featuring self-directed activities and hands-on projects. These enrichment opportunities are available once students complete their in-class assignments, allowing them to extend their critical thinking and problem-solving skills beyond the standard curriculum.
Our Gifted Consultation Program is designed to nurture higher-order thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, ensuring that gifted students remain engaged, challenged, and supported in their academic journey.
